I went to Mann Tools today over in West Columbia to look at their 3D carvers. They have an amazing showroom! They also have lots of hardwood to use in turning and woodworking projects. We hope to partner with them so their students can join the makerspace and use our equipment after their classes are done.
We got the Malsow calibration (5th time is the charm!)
We have been cutting simple shapes to test it out. Works pretty well. Zoom in to see the letters we cut out - the bit was too large for the font. We also found it is really a 2D router and doesn't do 2.5 or 3D cuts very well. We are also working on a dust collection system because it is messy. Alex, Steven, and Doug have been working on the website to make it more editable! We are going to do some blog posts for practice
